Me and my wife have a 11 year old boy. He has rarely had a dry night his entire life. We have taken him ot the Dr. He said the daignosis is primary nocturnal enuresis. He said some kids just don't grow out of bedwetting at the normal age. We have ben avoiding using diapers as we have always thought that it was too embarassign for older kids and we didnt' want to enocurage bedwetting. But now that the Dr. said he really has no control over this mea nd my wife have been thinking about putting him in diapers. I guess after reading this board this is not as unuasula s I first thought. What is your advice.? What are the pros and cons about putting a 12 year old back in diapers? How much of a choice should it be for the child. Or is it a parental decision? Thanks for any hlep you can offer. By the way I wet my bed too unitl I was 14.

Thanks everyone for your words and encouragement. Well Joe, our son, has been back in night diapers now for a couple of weeks. Its going better than I thought it would. Whew, those first couple of nights were hard on everyone. Its still pretty embarrassing for him I know. The good news is that he is at last finally now talking about this problem. He used to be so quiet about it before. I guess the decision to go back to diapering finally put everything on the table. I am glad he is talking about his feelings. I know he currently feels like the diapers means he is a failure and we are giving up on trying to be dry. He said that. I try to assure his that is not the case. The first few nights after his diapering he would not come out of his room. Now he is coming out and hanging around in his pjs and dipaers so I think he is getitng more comfortable with them. We caught his 8 year old brother teasing him, but we put a stop to that. We took the rubber sheet off Joe's bed (with he diapers he does not need it) and he really likes the fact that he can sleep on a real sheet and not have a wet bed in the morning. Also he got to pick out new pjs for Christmas and he likes the idea that he has not wet them yet. One thing he told me the other night which made sense to me and might serve as words of wisdom for others is that he thought it would have been better to never have taken him out of diapers in the first place. He said that it is probably harder to go back to have to wear them the older you are and longer you have been out of them. He said he has talked to several others in the chat room who have wet all their lives and had to be in night diapers all their lives and it was not such a big to to them. So maybe the adivce is don't wait. If your child wets the bed everynight its not yet ready to take him/her out of diapers. Its probalby harder to get them back into them than to jsut not ake them out of them in the first place until its time.

My younger brother has been staying with my husband and I during the school year while he attends a private school near our home. He's been a bedwetter all his life and he wears adults disposable diapers to bed. For some reason, his diapers have been leaking a lot and I end up having to change his sheets every night. A friend suggested that I get some plastic pants. Where can I get them big enough for him? I think he has about a 40 inch waist.

Hello: we have a 12 year odl son who wets the bed every night. Me and my wife have tried most every thing. We have been wondering about putting him back in night diapers for some time but were always reluctant as he always freaked whenver we brought it up as a possibility. He ahs a three old year o brother still in diapers and he does not want to have to be treated lieka three year old. Well we have been planning a several week vacation over the holidays. Me and my wife finally decided that for the vacation he needs to wear diapers at night. We bought him the stuff and yesterday when we told him he was going ot have to be put back in night diapers and showed him his diapers and plastic pants he got upset and cried. I felt sorry for him as I was pinning on his diaper but htought we shoudl stick it out and follwo thorugh. He is now back in night diapers and not very happy about it. Are we doing the right thing or will he come ot accept it a little better. I know no ones wants to wet the bed and wear diapers and I knwo he will never like it but soemtimes is it the best thign to do? Jim

Hi, my son have been wetting his bed now regularly for about 3 yrs. My wife and I are ready for him to wear diapers. Our proble is what kind to get him and how do you diaper an older boy his age. Also is there any where to find a picture of a kid his age wearing them so he can see they don't make him a baby for wearing them? Any help would be nice.

I have a son who wets the bed at least 2-3 times a week...he always has...We tried moisture alarms, setting 2 different alarm clocks during the night, limiting beverages, limiting caffeine. He goes to the bathroom before going to bed...Nothing seems to work. I make him change his linens...sometimes he covers up his bed with additional covers to avoid this chore and he stashes his wet underwear in his closet or under his bed. If I ask him about it...he usually lies. I am at my wit's end...I don't want to be a unsupportive mom, but sometimes I think it bothers me more than it does him. Can anyone tell me what to do next? Ignore it? Put him on medication? Check him for sleeping disorders? Hypnosis? (although his dad will probably not allow that) HELP! I'm beyond frustrated with this situation and I don't think there's enough patience in the world to see us through this.

I would not suspect he was a diaper lover only if he had not had diapers in his closet that were wet and when ever he was young he always wanted to buy diapers even though he didn't wet Koren

When I was growing up in the early 60's I had a wetting problem in the daytime and at night. In the morning just before going out the door to school my mother would hang a pair of rubber panties on her finger and and say "Linda its time to put your rubber panties on." I used to hate this and always hoped she would forget. she would put them on over my regular panties as a "reminder" I can remember the sound of the rubber being streached over my cloth panties and the snaping sound of the elastic band against my waist. They would stick on the wooden chairs we sat on and would make a funny sound when I forgot and slid off the chair to stand up to recite something. I have an 11yr old daughter that is doing the same thing I did(sometimes having daytime wetting accidents waiting to long to go potty.) I would like to try what my mother did to me to remind me that I have to go when I got the erge. Dose anyone know where I can buy the 60's type Gerber rubber pants that they use to sell in the grocery stores? The rubber works better since they do not make any noise when walking but still will give the funny feeling of rubber between the legs and the uncomfortable warmth they produce. I would appreaciate anyones knowledge where i can get these or other thoughts and ideas on training a 11yr old girl with rubber panties. Thanks Linda
