there seems to be so much negativeness from parents about the use of diapers. we tried them on a 7 yr old who was wetting every other night to two times a week. we did not use them as a punishment or as a means to make him feel bad. we discussed it with him and allowed him to hold them and look at them before. he made the decision to wear them. (we were using goodnights but even on dry nights they made him break out in a terrible rash.) we have been using size six diapers (huggies luvs etc.)when asked if he preferred waking in a wet diaper or a wet bed he did not hesitate to say he prefers diapers. and lo and behold he has made huge strides. he has been dry for thirteen days straight the longest he has ever gone. we no longer put him in diapers at night unless he requests it (which is rare.)or if he has been really active and feel he will not get up. i don't know why the diapers have worked so well but we are just very happy for him. if we had not tried them we would still be having a wet uncomfortable child waking up in the middle of the night. he gets a full night sleep uninterrupted now and it makes him happy so therefore we are happy. as for the diapers, hey if they get a full night of sleep, what's wrong with that.

Request for people who are on this page and who don't have a medical reason to be here. If you have a fetish please stay out of the discussions and polls because you effect the results in a very negative way. This site is about people who suffer a medical problem, i am sure there are sites for your kind of things. I don't judge you, all people have something, but this is not the place for you. In fact you are making a joke off this site. Please understand and stay out

My daughter initially was in pullups but then I quit using them. She felt like she was allowed to go in them and would use them rather than the bathroom if we put them on too early. So we went back to using a cloth covered pad that covers the entire bed under the sheets. There is no plastic rustle! We also have NO SMELL. The pad and the sheets are machine washed with regular detergent, oxy clean, and an enzyme cleaner from the pet store (odokleen). Her undies sometimes are tossed back in for another go around because I am fussy about the smell, but the sheets never need it if I use the above combo for washing. I mention all of this because I think that sometimes folks think that the only way to handle the smell is by using diapers. I do a lot of laundary everyday but there is never a concern that we or anyone who visits will smell it in her room. I think that it has been very important for her to feel the wetness instead of using the pullups because of her sensory integration issues.

To Bill, Maggie, and Tom:  I don't get it... why is it preferable to put TEENAGERS in DIAPERS for bedwetting, rather than teach them to wake up and use the toilet in the night? Statistically speaking, thirty percent of "normal" people (myself and my two teenagers included) must wake up and use the toilet in the night. Fifty percent of bedwetters "cure" themselves by learning to wake up and use the toilet in the night. My daughter even wakes up twice in the night, using a vibration alarm. The below post is from a concerned mother ("jenniferlynn") who is trying to keep her 13 year old son out of diapers. Yet you condemn her for that. There is something wrong with this picture...

I came to this website to get some legit information to help my son with his bedwetting. Instead, I think that I have stumbled into a fetish freakshow. There is nothing normal about diapering a 13 year old on a long trip so that you do not have to stop for bathroom breaks. I don't give a crap how much easier you say it is. It is absolutely outrageous! There is nothing funny about it. This is a legitimate problem for my son. He is 13 years old and cannot hold his urine throughout the night. I am also hearing the term "diapers" being thrown about. In my house we never use that word. The negative effects are overwhelming. My son feels like he is a baby. I do not have a changing table, I do not powder his rear, and I definitely do not encourage him to wear his "diapers" just because. My son has suffered much humiliation because of this problem. He has difficulty with any type of sleep over at his friends houses because he is made fun of. Any caring parent would be mortified to have their child suffer the embarrassment that my son has had to endure. Those of you that think that wearing diapers is just a phase and should "let him do his own thing" need some counseling. I worry about infection on his skin from sleeping in urine all night. I worry about further teasing from others. And I worry about the effects on him, emotionally. I have tried to wake him to use the bathroom before I go to bed, but that too has it's side effects. My son also has night terrors and waking him from a sound sleep proved to be just as traumatizing. I am at my wits end with this. He has been to medical doctors, on medicine, and also to a counselor. Nothing has worked. I would like to hear from real parents who have sought real treatments and have real stories to tell. Freaks need not respond!

My daughter almost 7 has been wetting since she was 4 pretty regularly. I am thinking of getting an alarm, but do not know which ones are most effective. Any insights on which ones work will be very much appreciated!

i have a thirteen year old daughter who started her menstruation period. she wets at night, and sometimes during the day, so she wears diapers to sleep. is it okay to leave her in diapers at night during her period or does she have to wear a pad inside the diaper or what? her diapers are very absorbent, and i have no doubt that they can hold urine as well as the blood as a result of her period, but i'm not sure if the menstrual blood-urine combination will cause problems? i'd appreciate anyone's input on the subject, as soon as possible. for tonight, she'll just wear her regualr diapers like normal, and hopefully nothing will go wrong with the menstrual fluids and urine in the same diaper, except maybe the smell. thank you. any help is appreciated!

I have a son who is still bedwetting. I put him back in diapers and rubber pants about two months ago. He dose not like the idea and there is little cooperation at bed time when it comes to putting them on. So I do the changing. I have back problems so I can't have him lay on the floor. The bed is also to low and creates stiffness in my back. Dose anyone have any ideas out there for a changing table that would support an 11 yr. old. It would be nice to have something higher then a bed so I don't have to bend over so much. If anyone has any ideas where I can get a table for changing I would appreaciate it to let me know. It would be nice for open shelves so that I can store the diapers underneath. I want everything with the diapers to be very visible for motivational purpoeses.
