She also tries to wait instead of urinating at school, and has come home from school with web pants upon occasion. I have tried putting towels under the sheets, but she pulls them out. She denies wetting the bed. I've repeatedly tried talking to her about this. Every night, I am changing sheets. She's a very modest person. But I am considering talking to her about wearing diapers again. Any suggestions on how to get her to cooperate? Should my husband and I do the diapering, or should we leave some diapers for her? Any recommendations on what kind of diapers would be best -- disposable, cloth?

I would like to provide my comments and suggestions in the hope that it might help. You see, I am now 16 years old, and have been a bedwetter all my life. I have done considerable research on this subject and have spent many months talking with other children on this site's 11-20 chat room. It might help to see things regarding this problem from the perspective of a "kids" point of view. Both my parents wet into their early teens and my younger sister dryed up when she was 10 years old. I consider myself rather mature for my age, do very well in school, am fairly popular amoung my peers, and socialize with my parent's adult friends on a regular basis. I plan to attend a well known university shortly...(click here to see entire message)

From Bob, Child's Age 15 - 3/12/102 - IP#: 22.37.200.134 Click here to reply I am concerned about the liberal use of diapers in kids who wet the bed. If you look at this month's poll on this site, it shows that most kids who wet at night would rather sleep (and wet) in a diaper or risk a wet bed than wake up and use the toilet at night. That is pretty sad, in my opinion. I, myself, have needed to wake up and use the toilet during the night for my entire life, and my son, ex-bedwetter, does also. Should we both be using diapers instead? I know that it is hard to wake up from a deep sleep and use the toilet, but we learned to do it, and I feel most kids can learn to do it as well. I have read that 30% of people have to use the toilet during the night. Also, diaper fetish appears to be quite common among the bedwetters who use this site (it is a form of infantilism). I believe that diaper fetish is equally as common in bedwetters who do not use the Internet. So it appears that some kids (and teenagers) wet the bed or wet during the day so that they can stay in diapers, even into adulthood. The resulting social problems are obvious. My point is this: Be careful about pushing diapers on your kids. Push wake-up training and bladder training (e.g. daytime holding exercises) instead.

From Marijke, Child's Age 14 - 3/12/2002 - IP#: 193.173.194.164 Click here to reply I often read this message board and i am surprised about some messages. My son was 9 when he started to wet his bed. First it was 2 or 3 times a week but soon he was wet almost every night. Hospital examinations showed he was psychically alright. He got several medicins such as desmopressin but nothing worked or he felt miserable. I stopped with medicins and after several long talks i could convince him to start wearing diapers. Our agreement was that he would try it for a week and when he did not like it i would never start this discussion again. First time i diapered him he cried. But after 2 nights he told me that he felt much better. He felt comfortable in his diapers after two weeks. I use terry cloth diapers and plastic pants. 7 months later he had several daytime accidents too and again i went to specialists but he seemed okay. Because he had very often accidents I started to diaper him in daytime too and though he felt miserable about that he seemed to know that there was no other way. Advice for all parents give your child extra support and make him/her feel loved and explain everything to him and keep telling him that many children lives with the same. My son is still in diapers day and night but he can handle it even when he is teased at school. He knows I love him. He has some friends and except his wetting problem he grows up like every other kid. Greet to you all, Marijke

I have recently heard about a nasal spray called 'Desmopression'. Has anyone used this and were the results good or bad? I would appreciate any input.
Thanks

From Fredrick, Child's Age X - 3/4/2002 - IP#: 152.163.201.208 Click here to reply About a month ago (1/29/02), I related to this board, the bedwetting problem of my two nephews. Okay, the update: When they were staying at my house, both boys had accidents nightly. I know this because both beds were stripped in the morning, except for the rubber sheets. And, according to my sister, that had been pretty much the situation, up until then.
Now, since they have been in their own home for a little over a month, the 16 yo is showing signs of real improvement. My sister says, for the last two weeks, he has had 10 dry mornings! As a result, she is thinking of buying him bedwetter pants that Bonnie suggested. Are they waterproof? I forgot to ask her. Anyway, if not, he would still have to wear rubber pants, then?
On the other hand, the 14 yo is not doing so hot. He still wets nightly. I brought up the idea of a moisture alarm device that one of you suggested. However, since both of them sleep in the same room, she felt that would create problems.
As a precaution for long trips, she does make them wear their diapers and rubber pants. This she does often for her frequent drives to Seattle. When I drove them to the airport, both boys had their nighttime attire under their sweats. Probably the smart to do in this day and age.
