From Stan, Child's Age 12 - 1/29/2002 - IP#: 64.165.142.154 Click here to reply Our 12 year old is bedwetting several nights a week now and we would like to get him into diapers. We have raised the issue and bought some, but he says he will not wear them, so we sare seeking advice here. We need to know the basics here because we are tired of the wet sheets and urine smells and are stressed out.
Do we just put them one him ourselves or enforce his putting them on? We bought traditional cloth diapers and plastic pants, but maybe some other type would be better. If we put them on him, do you recommend a diaper changing pad, rash ointment and powder or what?
How did you do it for your child and what do you suggest?

From Fredrick, Child's Age X - 1/29/2002 - IP#: 152.163.201.46 Click here to reply Several days ago, my sister and her two boys (16&14)stopped by to pay me a visit. She living in Oregon and I in Massachusetts, we sort of lost touch of the years. Anyway, well into the evening of much reminiscence and catching up, she abruptly called to the boys and told them to "get ready for bed." At this point, she left me to go one of the guest rooms to supervise. About twenty minutes later she brought the boys back to say "good night." I was a little shocked to see them both diapered and wearing rubber pants! After they had gone back to bed, I asked my sister about their nighttime attire. She seemd completely blase'about the whole matter. She said she didn't want to put undue pressure on the boys about their bed- wetting, as she was certain they would out grow it soon. Well, maybe she had a point. I don't know. I would appreciate your views.

From Jasmine, Child's Age 11 - 1/24/2002 - IP#: 64.0.147.2 Click here to reply Hi I am 11 and I bedwet. It is hard for me to take it. I have a thirteen year old brother and a nine year old sister who bedwet also. My brother has pills that you take a half an hour before bed. Only one, and I tried it. It really works. I can't go on taking his perscription, so I was wondering if anyone has them, I don't know what they are called. So if anyone has something like that let me know.

I disagree and have asked him to come here to this site and get more information on it. He just thinks our son is lazy and doesn't want to get up. I was a bed wetter until I was 12. My brother, dad and an aunt was all one too. My mom put me through lots of test when I was younger and my aunt asked why she was doing all that for. I keep telling my Ex that he will out grow it. I keep him in good nites here and I used to send some to his dads too. I hope he does understand the damage he could be causing our son in the future.

From Jennifer, Child's Age 9 - 1/14/2002 - IP#: 67.202.27.28 Click here to reply Does anyone have any success stories with alarms? I'd like to hear them!!! My daughter is 9 and wets at night. (I also wet until the age of 15-16. My daughter has seen a urologist and no physical problem found. We are trying the Monitor V from Travis International. It cost over $300 (they have cheaper models) and has a loud alarm and vibrating pillow for her and also a vibrating pillow for me. Underwear with a sensor strip detects fluid (as little as 1/2 tsp) and sends signal to transmitter which snaps to the outsite of underwear which sends signal to receiver box which plugs into wall. The vibirating pillow plugs into the receiver box and it goes off too. The second receiver is my room next to my bed and my vibrating pillow plugs into it and this helps me get up to help her change. Even though the alarm is very loud, she sometimes tunes it out so I definitely have to back her up.
I do believe in the concept. At first she wet 4-5 times per night. Now she wets 1-3 times per night. We have been unable to progress any further because of problems with the equipment. I have sent the equipment back several times for repairs or replacement and each time the equipment fails, her progress is unterupted and she relapses. I think she would have been cured by now if the equipment had been more reliable. They (Travis) claim to have a 90 or 95% success rate, especially with kids 8 or younger. (The younder the better.) She just turned nine. I wish we had tried this when she was 6. Even more so, I wish the equipment was more reliable. After 5 months and sending equipment back 5 times, I am ready to demand my money back. We had problems with the equipment from day one. Has anyone tried other alarms that work???? What brand, how did it work? How long did it take and how old was child?

From Connie, Child's Age 5 - 1/12/2002 - IP#: 63.10.151.210 Click here to reply Our son has been potty trained since he was 3, he was hospitalized a week ago with asthma. He pottied in the hospital bed, and has pottied in the bed at home everynight since we got back home. He's very shy about this, but let's us know when he's done it. I don't think that he realizes he's doing it. He tells me he will try harder next time, and I feel so bad for him. He's on Orapred right now, and it's got his eating and drinking habits out of wack, in other words, he's eating and drinking all the time. We make his potty before he gets in the bed, but he still has accidents. Should I follow up with his Dr. regarding this, or should I let it go a few more nights to see if he stops. Tomorrow morning is his last dose of steriod, I am hoping that once he gets off that, it may stop the bed wetting. I was just wondering if anyone else had a boy/girl go through this as well. Any comments will be appreciated.

From lisa, Child's Age 6.7 - 1/8/2002 - IP#: 24.160.111.84 Click here to reply My son has started having accidents quite a bit at night over the past month. We figured with the holidays that he was just off schedule, and it would go away when we got back into our routine.Instead, it seems to be getting worse. We've been waking him to go to the restroom about 11pm,which might be helping some, but he's also been having accidents during the day.He seems like a perfectly happy child, and we can't figure it out. I think I'll take him in for a check up tomorrow. It feels like an act of defience because he's actually pulled his shorts down when he's gone on our floor. We've asked him why he has done this, and he says he doesn't know. Any help and guidance would be great.

From Marc, Child's Age 15 (me) - 1/8/2002 - IP#: 213.17.10.75 Click here to reply Hi. First of all, I do not have a 15 year old child but im 15 myself.
I just wanted to know how great it is to find a support site like this.
I wish I had found this site before, because i felt very lonely for a long time, thinking I was the only one who had this wetting problem..
Sure the docs always told me I was not alone in this, but its hard to believe when you dont know anyone with the same problems..
Well I still wet the bed almost every night, and have to make sure to go the bathroom frequently, but im glad i got the daily problem under control now.
I have always been in diapers at night - disposable diapers that is because I can change those myself (and have been doing so since i was 9).
Been to the docs quite a few times and tried everything (well i tried A LOT) but nothing seems to have helped.
I have learned to live with it (more or less anyway) and think i'd still might outgrow it - although im 15 already..
Take care
Marc
