I have been reading this board for quite some time now, and a few posts have me thinking about a situation I have. I have frour children ranging in ages from 4 to 16. My sons ages are 4, 10, and 16. My daughter is 9. She was born when my now 10 year old was 14 months. Before she was born, I started potty training my son, I just was not going to deal with two children in diapers. After the youngest was born, I noticed a few occasions when I caught my son wearing a pair of baby pants over his underwear. I, of course, told him in no uncertain terms to get them off. He responded that he liked to wear them but that wasn't an option with me and he took them off. Last weekend my 4 year old got a bad case of diarrhea. He had messed in his pants three or four times and I decided that enough was enough and put him back in diapers until his system was back to normal. After I put him into his bed, my 10 year old started begging me to put diapers on him. I mean he was on his knees. The only response I could think of at the time was that I didn't have any more large safety pins. He asked me if he found some pins would I diaper him. Not thinking he would find any I said yes. I found out that he had gone to several neighbors houses asking them for pins. When he returned with pins I put him off for a while and then it became obvious that he wasn't going to give up. I finally told him NO, I would not diaper him. He sobbed, telling me that I had promised to diaper him if he found some pins. My question is: Did I do the right thing? I just can't see putting diapers on a 10 year old just because he wants to wear them. Also, did I do him an injustice by potty training him when he was so young? Thanks, Betty

My 13 yr has pretty much stopped wetting the bed.He used to be a heavey wetter ,up till He was about 12.Now it is very rare for him to wet the bed ,but now we have a new problem. He often wakes up crouchey ,and irritable since he no longer wets the bed. When I ask him if he sleeps good ,he says "no" and it is obvious.Which problem is worse ,the bedwetting or a crouchy teen in the mornings.Has any body else seen this in their teen boys ?Please respond.

TOM...Of all the unmitigating unmitigatings re: your kilometer and a half long reply to SHARON in next below post. It has upset me so that I hardly know what to say. I hope that I do not ramble on and say something that I will regret later. What are you wanting to do? Sharon was dealing with her own understanding and along comes a page of confusing statements, personal questions, unrelated insignificant information and what have you. TOM, the ages of children I have used above are my grandkids. I have never used that entry before because the entry is not meaningful to the thrust of this website. I will not continue writing for much longer in all probability. The ideas that I put forth are not without error, but they are my honest opinion and the way I see and have experienced the mind-set of today's(usually)Mums. I have always been mindful of the children and undoubtedly the reason that I enjoy responding to the trials of the parents who elect to post to this website. This though is not about me, but the fact that I am very upset that you would take to write as you did after all the facts and nuances had already been defined. I am hoping upon hope that Sharon has not been confused and upset. Respectfully.....Mr John

Here is an interesting question: In searching around the web for way to stop bedwetting, I have come across the phrase "No child wets the bed on purpose" hundreds of times. But then I noticed in poll #29 on this site that of 267 respondents,175 (66%) said they sometimes or always wet on purpose. Only 92 (34%) said they never do. Virtually every expert I have found states emphatically that intentional bedwetting never ever occurs, but the bedwetters themselves say it is common. How should we interpret this?

I have read many of these bedwetting boards and hopefully can receive some good advice. My girfreind and I are spending a lot time trying to work with my son who has been a heavy bed wetter since he was 4 years old.He had a bad experience when he was 4 while staying over at his friends house in our neighborhood. His friends mother caught them playing with her 2 year olds diaper and plastic pants. She made them wear double diapers and plastic pants to bed.She would only let them use the diapers to go to the bathroom. She sent him home wearing a wet diaper and a note for me.She and I mixed words and don't really speak. He is 9 now and I am finally at an end.I have tried everything to get him to stop but nothing has worked. My friends and my girlfriend are telling me to put him in diapers and plastic pants before bedtime. He wore cloth diapers and plastic pants till he was 3.He really never got the hang of potty training.I have talked with him and said that I think it is best that he wears diapers and plastic pants to bed.Every time we talk,we start out ok but I end up threatening him.He throws a tantrum about being put back into diapers but I don't see any other way.Do I start him gradually in diapers till he gets use to it and then add the plastic pants.I thought about maybe putting him in diapers and plastic pants for part of the day so maybe he will get over the strangeness. He does have daytime wetting accidents all the time.I did order larger plastic pants that will fit him.I just haven't got the courage to do this.My girlfriend suggested that she hold him down before bedtime while I diaper him, but I don't think that is the right approach.I want him to feel good about this and not being ashamed.I am very tired of washing sheets and clothes every day.If anyone has tried this I would love to get some direction on how to handle this.
