First, I wouldn't hang my hat on the dads story. Secondly I can't believe someone would intentially wet themselves, therefore, I haven't understood the reward/taking responsibility approach either. Why wouldn't you stop if you could. I believe in the deep sleep theory. Get some sort of pager that will wake him at the point of release, wake him fully. Clean him up. Start again, stay positive. It worked for my 8 year old. He felt bad, tried to hide it. I stayed positive, through the frustration, and it worked. It may take a couple months, but stick with it. We used the potty pager, which I modified with a buzzer. Good luck.
