First of all, I bought pull up's for the boys because I was tired of cleaning bed sheets everyday. I also made them take off their bedsheets and bring them down to the dirty clothes each morning if they overfilled thier pull up or forgot to put one on. The youngest one stopped nighttime bed wetting. But continues to urinate in his pants during the day. The oldest one still wets 99% of the nights and is having messes in his pants regularly. I have noticed that is the times that he is busy playing and does not want to stop what he is doing to come inside or go to the bathroom. It is the same case with both of them. I have taken them to the doctor and had an ultrasound done of thier bladders and kidneys (upon the doctors request) Everything was normal. The doctor felt that with the youngest one the daytime wetting was not a medical reason. After they came home from their Mother's for the summer...I started disaplining him for the daytime wetting. He only gets one pair of underwear a day. If he wets in them, he takes them off, rinses them out and he goes to bed. He has learned the art of lying about it (ofcourse...who wants to go to bed right after school?) and he also is more proned to black pants now (doesn't show if he wets) I throw up my arms at trying to figure out what else to do. Besides his clothes smelling like urine...I am content to think that this won't always be a problem and he will eventually care about hygenine. The 10 year old is still having messes..and this is something I am not content with. It smells to be around him and I worry about the negative effects his classmates words will have upon him (he says no one notices...but I don't see how anyone COULDN'T notice) I have went through potty training him all over again after realizing one day while walkiing in the bathroom while he was on the toilet..that he doesn't know how to wipe. His father says he thought he knew..but the majority of the time, he doesn't even wipe. So, this is the point we are at now.....The doctor says that the next step is a Lower GI. and I am real apprehensive about putting my child through this. Especially when he can control it. We started a calendar and for each day he has a mess..he has to highlight the day..when he seen that it was happening atleast 3 times a week...he told me he didn't realize it was that much and for 2 weeks he didn't have any messes. The new month came around and I didn't have a calendar made up and it started all over again (october) I also told his father that I did not feel that the spankings were working. First, the punishment was quick and then all over with..and he could continue playing. We started the 1 pair of underwear rule for him a day. Last week, I noticed that he had no underwear in the laundry. He was wearing the same underwear so he wouldn't get in trouble. Do I check his underwear everyday? Should I go through with the Lower GI even though I know that he has control over it? Last night was a prime example..Him and my other son was upstairs playing pool...I told them that we had to leave the house in 15 minutes so make sure they had their shoes on and went to the bathroom. I also told them again when we had 5 minutes to go. When I yelled up and said that it was time to leave, the 10 year old came running down the stairs and said "I really have to go"....When we go to the Banquet last night, I could smell him everytime he moved. He said it was because he didn't have time to wipe since we was leaving...but I knew that ..that strong of a smell doesn't come from just not wiping. He was having fun playing and didn't want to stop to go to the bathroom. We were at a banquet with 100+ people and the people around me were talking about the smell...(making jokes about someone needing to go to the bathroom or maybe the septic backed up...etc) I just don't know what to do and I would appreciate any comments. I have done research and research some more...have consulted the doctor and the doctor says it is not right for a 10 year old to be doing this. But if one gets in a habit.......I don't know..but I would like to have some input. Thanks in advance.
