I am Not a proponant of corporal punishment but I do agree with chastisement spareingly however Rob psychiatrists look at mental illness psychologists look for lifestyles the way the child is -underlying problems . children wet the bed for many reasons insecurety, sleeping too deeply, problems with their bladder etc;etc;yes the teacher should have explored why he wet himself if it was just to get out of the class then possibly chastisement was in order we do not know the ins and outs what was the situation!.your other statement about a child wanting to wear nappies etc then that could be through insecurety a crisis in that childs life that they are going through no child should be forced into wearing protection and and any decent parent and there are numerous decent parents on this board who care about their children would respect that childs feelings etc;
