Continued from Bob, Child's Age 14,15 - 6/5/02... The wish to wear diapers forever may also be for pure convenience. In a previous poll 61% voted that they would rather wet in a diaper and sleep than get up and use the toilet in the night. Most kids and adults coming to this site have searched on the keyword, "bedwetting", unless they are referred by another site. Thus, there are probably three groups of bedwetters in the 49% that want to wear diapers forever: 1) Those who are not legitimate bedwetters, but wear diapers "for fun" - the fetish group, 2) Those who are legitimate bedwetters, but don't want to stop diapers for reasons of convenience (e.g. not getting up at night), and 3) Those who are legitimate bedwetters, but are emotionally attached to diapers. Emotional attachment to diapers and diaper fetish could be the reason why many bedwetters do not respond to treatments and why many kids start wetting again after being dry for many years. I believe that diapers can be addicting just like alcohol or drugs. Like alcohol, if exposed to diapers, some individuals will become addicted and some will not. Adults who are addicted to diapers even seek psychiatric help (see the 2 posts earlier on this board). But if the individual is not overly exposed to diapers, then the attachment is less likely. My daughter and a couple of others in the kids chatroom are trying to get out of diapers by learning to wake to an alarm at night, because they hate diapers. But most of the children and the parents using this site seem not interested in any method to deal with bedwetting other than diapers. That is tragic, in my opinion. |
