Wake-up training boasts a similar cure rate, and even hypnosis has a 40% cure rate. But only 15% of kids spontaneously "outgrow" bedwetting each year, with no intervention. Bladder or nervous system maturity is therefore not the only factor responsible for kids becoming dry. There is a cognitive factor as well. Kids can be "trained" (can learn) to not wet at night, half of them by holding their urine until morning and the other half by waking up and using the toilet. I believe that diapers impede this learning process by removing much of the incentive to wake up and use the toilet in the night or to hold the urine throughout the night. Emotional attachment to diapers, which is quite prevalent in the kids on this site, may also impede becoming dry. |
