I've been out of town and haven't been able to keep up with this discussion for a few weeks. In this case I would agree with Joan - if half learned to sleep through the night without wetting, and the other half learned to wake up when they have a full bladder, then all of them essentially outgrew it, but in different ways. In both cases the "cure" is a result of maturity; either the bladder matured to the point it can make it through the night, or the nervous system matured to the point it could wake the child up when it received a full bladder signal. I don't think anyone can conclude that the use of diapers had anything to do with either. I still believe that the use of diapers is not a cure, but only a means of keeping a child dry and comfortable until a cure is found or until he outgrows it.
