Reply from Maggie, Child's Age 11 - 3/23/02 - IP#: 12.86.10.28Bob -- I am also surprised at the degree of support for diapers by bedwetters and their parents on this site, and I wonder if it might be a reaction to the message we have been hearing for years that bedwetting can be stopped if only parents and their children work hard enough at it. We spent eleven years (and a fair amount of money) on alarms, medication, food & drink restrictions, etc., putting our child and ourselves through a lot of unnecessary grief, without it making a bit of difference to his bedwetting. To read the accounts on this board, we could easily spend another ten or eleven years slaving away at this project and get nothing for it but more wet beds, clothing, car seats, etc. Without a doubt, “stop bedwetting” techniques DO work for a lot of kids and parents, but there must be a sizable minority of us who need a more immediate and practical solution to the problem. |
