Reply from Joan, Child's Age 13 - 3/15/02 - IP#: 80.225.3.186Bob – Thanks for your posting on wake-up training. I had obviously misinterpreted what you meant, as I had thought you were referring to a child training himself to wake when needing to urinate. Now that I know what you mean, I can assure you that we have been through this exercise on a number of occasions without success. Our problem is that Tom wets two or three times per night, on average, with no real pattern in the timing. Also, his Asperger’s means that his brain does not function in the normal way, so I am not even sure that he is getting the intended message when we wake him and take him to the toilet. Not only does he end up feeling crotchety, but we end up exhausted after several nights of setting alarms and getting up two or three times a night. I think it was worth trying, and it may work for some kids, but the one thing I have learnt from this board is that all kids are different, with different needs. What works for one, doesn’t necessarily work for another. |
