Reply from Tom, Child's Age none - 2/14/02 - IP#: 68.11.142.251Hi - I responded to your earlier message and suggested that you try cloth for greater absorbency. You can get contour shaped diapers with velcro fasteners or pull-up style diapers from a variety of sources, Loving Comfort and Llmedico to name just two. Don't be put off by the nursery print, most suppliers can supply white if you ask for it. All of my diapers are white because the suppliers I used don't offer colors, but most of my plastic pants are colored. You can often get good prices by taking whatever stock they have on hand, and who cares what color they are, diapers aren't a fashion show anyway. No one besides immediate family should ever see them. A couple of things to keep in mind: If your brother is still growing he may grow out of the form-fitting or pull up diapers before they are worn out. Flat pre-fold diapers that are pinned on will fit a growing person longer, and he can eventually learn to get them pinned on right. I wear those myself and pin them on myself, using the four pin technique. Also, the flat pre-folds are more absorbent. The others are essentially a flat pre-fold with part of the fabric removed to make the form shape or to sew it into a brief. I tried the contour diaper with velcro and found that they leaked more than flat pre-fold, and also that if I gained any weight I could not fasten the velcro. I use a night weight flat pre-fold from atdincdirect.com and very rarely have any leaks. One final note - stay away from the all-in-one style with diaper and plastic pants in the same garment. The plastic pants usually get brittle and crack long before the diaper wears out. |
