Reply from Tony, Child's Age 12 - 1/5/02 - IP#: 62.252.64.6

Our Son is 12 and started wetting the bed a year ago. At first we ignored it but then we thought he was doing it on purpose as his accidents became more frequent. Of-course no child ever really wets deliberately, for some it can simply be a reassurance thing. He had been through a difficult time. We did find that taking a low key effort worked best and left a selection of children's nappies lying around the house. We explained that Sam could use them if he wanted to stop getting sores between his legs and to stop him from smelling and let him know that it was ok to wet himself if he couldn't help it. We also put a bin in his bedroom for the wet 'stuff' in the morning and he is happy to change himself. (Pull up pants are so much easier!) Sleepovers are no real problem either but a word of advice... boys being boys... he inevitably wants to show his friends the nappy just in case he has an accident and they invariably dare him to give a demo! We discourage this but better to give a few than to risk an accident! He has improved and now wets less than once a week. Good Luck with your Son!
