Tell him not to worry about going on camp outs with the scouts. I am a cub scout assistant and I wet the bed. I go on all sorts of campouts including Chamboree, and last years Millennium camp. There are lots of kids of his age that wet the bed and actually some medical forms for scouts actually mention bedwetting as an example. Most scout leaders are very understanding about the problem of wetting the bed and actually on the millennium camp I was on all the cubs where sat round the dining table laughing and asking who wet the bed. Also I was on a scout camp once and this lad woke up with a wet bed but everyone was alright with him afterwards. When I first started camping I used to stay awake all night to prevent bedwetting and got the name of the phantom pee-er 'cos I used to sneak out the tent every five seconds just to go to the toilet. If you telephone the leaders and explain to them the problem they are usually very understanding and may actually get the scout to talk to the other scouts with the same problem (because this problem does come up alot). He really has nothing to worry about, no-one finds out except you and the leaders and even if they do they are usually very good about it. If he wants any re-assurance he can feel free to e-mail me at darrenforster99@aol.com and how about his group coming over to Cheshire, UK next year for the Chamboree 2002, this is a small version of Jamboree held every 4 years in Cheshire, see http://www.cheshirescouts.f9.co.uk for more info. Also the saying in our scout law is "On my honour I promise that I will do my best, to do my duty to God and to the Queen, TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE and to keep the scout law and the third law of scouts is A scout is to be friendly and considerate, so all the scouts should consider your sons feelings (especially the scout leader) towards him wetting the bed. If you or your son want to get in touch about coping with wetting the bed and camping out please feel free to contact me at darrenforster99@aol.com
