Like Trevor, I too am a bedwetter, and yes, there are lots of opinions about using diapers. If you read some of the older posts you will find that most parents try to find a way to stop the bedwetting, usually alarms and medications, but then resort to diapers if nothing else works. Diapers are appropriate for a child that needs the protection, but the diaper should not interfere with the process of becoming dry at night. Pull-ups like Goodnights do allow the child to get up to use the bathroom at night. A flat prefold cloth diaper that is pinned on offers the best protection, but makes it all but impossible to use the bathroom if the opportunity arises. This could result in a child that is ready to become dry continuing to wet because he can't manage to get his diaper off and back on by himself. I believe a pin-on diaper should only be used on a child that consistently wets every night and shows no signs of becoming dry. There are also pull-up style cloth diapers available that may not be quite as absorbent as a prefold, but is better than a disposable and allows the child to use the bathroom when he can.
