Reply from Tom, Child's Age N/A - 3/3/03 - IP#: 159.39.16.14

I’m the Tom in the U.S. and I am glad to see that you posted on the Incontact board and got a couple of replies. I hope the folks in the UK can give you some good advice and get you on track to get some help for your daughter. Wetting twice a night seems to reinforce what I said before, that she might have a small bladder. If so the problem will most likely take care of itself, but possibly not for two or three more years depending on how fast she grows. Just to explain a point or two made by the Welsh Tom, I do have two girls, one grown and one 14. It is my understanding that listing the child’s age is intended to inform the reader of the age of the child with a bedwetting problem. I list child’s age as N/A because neither of my girls were bedwetters and I don’t want to imply that either of them was. But bedwetting is common among the males in my family and I wet the bed almost every night until age 12, and a few years ago started again. That’s not uncommon according to my doctor, as I am a very deep sleeper and bedwetting is often related to sleep disorders. What advice I may have to offer is not based on parenting a bedwetting child but on personal experience with bedwetting, both as a child and an adult. In some cases I think I have a better understanding of what a child is going through than parents that have never been there themselves.
