It can be due to an emotional upset, a physical disability, or a medical infection in the urinary tract, or even a general yeast infection known as candida. In such cases, a doctor may be able to help, although candida is difficult to diagnose. To punish for an occurrance which cannot be controlled is cruel. When I was very young, I was punished severely for my bedwetting. I now realize that this is the biggest reason why I have been a loner, afraid of the world, unable to grow emotionally. I also realized that it caused me to begin to treat my own children with anger when they wet their beds. Fortunately, I could see that I would be wrong to do so. I am betting that your father was treated similarly as a child. Now that I have a handle on the causes, I am getting a grip on my own life's emotional state. Consider this: To learn to stay dry at night is rather like learning to sleep with a ping pong ball in your hand. It can be done, but there will be a lot of mornings when you find that you dropped it during the night. It's not your fault, it just happens. A lot of people get wet at night, through no fault of thier own. You are not alone. Nor are you alone in being punished unfairly for it. There are many like you. I hope I have given you something to think about, maybe something to talk about with your dad, (if you think it's possible), or maybe with your doctor in private. I hope the future improves. |
