I am an outdoor program leader who encountered his first 'wetter on a 5-day canoe program last summer (the individual in question used Goodnites, changed in private, and we stored the used ones in a waterproof stuff sack that the leaders carried; no one else on the program was any for the wiser as far as we know). I was looking at this website to find ways that other teens dealt with this when they go to camp or on outdoor programs. Based on my own experience, have your parents talk to the camp program manager and let them know the situation. If you can talk with your counsellor beforehand in private (whatever feels safe for you), do so, and let them know what's up with your situation. A heads up will help prevent embaressing and awkward moments AND will mean that you have someone on "your side". Just be prepared to educate someone probably much older then yourself (your leaders). You have the courage (if you got this far) to climb, hike, canoe, kayak and ride and not let wetting stop you from having a life. Go play, kid! |
